This book, published to accompany an exhibition organised by The Noguchi Museum in New York, explores an important but often overlooked chapter of the life of Isamu Noguchi. In 1930, early in his career, Noguchi arrived in Beijing and began to study ink painting with the master Qi Baishi. Noguchi remained in Beijing for seven months, and his experience with Qi has a clear resonance in his later practice.
